What are the classifications of propellers

18-01-2021

There are many types of propellers. For example, according to the blades, it can be divided into 2, 3, 4 blades, or even more. Of course, the more blades, the greater the power, and according to the structure, it can be divided into the following types.

1. fixed pitch propeller The installation angle of the blades of the fixed-pitch propeller is fixed, that is, the blades are a whole. When the ship reverses, the propeller must be reversed. This can be achieved by reversing the clutch or the direction of rotation of the main engine. When the ship is docked, the main engine stops and the propeller stops rotating. The fixed pitch propeller has the advantages of sturdiness, resistance to damage and energy saving, and is suitable for small ships.

2. variable pitch propeller Variable pitch propeller is also called variable pitch propeller. It can rotate the propeller blades through the mechanism in the hub to adjust the pitch and angle of the blade rotation to adapt to the needs of various scenarios. The propeller blades are not directly fixed on the propeller hub, but rotate around an axis perpendicular to the propeller shaft, and the pitch angle is changed through the mechanism in the propeller hub, thereby changing the magnitude and direction of the propulsion power. Ships with large changes in load or power, such as icebreakers, tugboats, and fishing boats.

3. propeller with deflector The purpose of the deflector is to increase the thrust of the propeller. Since the water flow speed entering the deflector is higher than the water flow outside the propeller, the thrust of the propeller will naturally increase when the pressure is increased. The deflector can also reduce noise and vibration, and will also be very energy-saving. The propeller with the deflector is suitable for almost all ships except high-speed ships, especially inland ships, dredgers, fishing boats and supply vessels.

4. rudder propeller The main feature of rudder propeller is that the propeller can rotate at will like a rudder, even 360°. The reverse thrust of the pod-type propeller is basically the same as the forward thrust, and the forward and backward transition is also very fast. At the same time, as long as the propeller is turned left or right, it can generate side thrust, so it is both a propeller and a rudder. Therefore, its maneuverability is particularly good, and it is widely used in tugboats and ships with high maneuverability.

5. Electric marine propeller Electric marine propellers are used for high-speed sailing electric marine propellers. Its entire propulsion system can be directly installed outside the hull, and it can be directly raised to the surface when the ship is stopped. Electric marine propellers do not require gearboxes, clutches, propeller shafts, and rudders. Compared with other propeller driving equipment, their design and structure are relatively simple.
